Gentoo is realy needing some work to make it easy to install

I have tried for two hours to get Gentoo to install. I can't even get it to recongnize my NIC. EVERY other Linux Distor see a SIS900. Gentoo may be great but it will never make it big time until they make it at least automatic in nic installations.

Oh well two hours wasted....

the installation is a doddle i found, so step by step it's unreal. The fact that it didn't pick up the NIC isn't really related. it does give you plenty of instructions on how to maunally set up if it's it's not autodetected though.

Thanks Acid- For now I think I will stay with SuSE , I can at least run it in VMware so I can switch back & forth.
Pretty cool this VMware, I had heard about and never had a chance to use it until this week.

I kepst trying to get to tell me what driver it needed, but I could never find it.
Maybe I will try again another day.

Thanks for your help,
keith

Odd, the latest version of gentoo recognized my card right away. I think that gentoo's installer is more fun compared to using Mandrakes, all you do is click next, like installing a windows program. Well just my
(I didn't see that one until today, pretty neat though)

ooh, thats a great emoticon.

In Suse, do a "lsmod" as root and it will tell you what modules you have loaded. Look for your NICs module.

Then during the Gentoo install, when it lets you load extra modules, just load that one. Easy as pie.
