Gentoo Install difficulties

Okay, I installed Gentoo from Stage 1 once, with no difficulties up until the point where I totally botched lilo - and realized that I felt like a reformat anyway. Now on my second install from Stage 1, numerous attempts to

end with this error:

What can I do to remedy my problem - I am pretty sure this didn't happen the first time, and I do not know how to access 'config.log' either - so help in that direction would be appreciated.
