Gentoo, grub recover?

Hi all...

I decided to install Gentoo on my laptop... My partition table is too complicated and by installing gentoo I am gonna format everything and create a new part. table... THe question is for several reasons I have to use winxp (guitar pro etc...) and I have to install windows after installing gentoo so as a result grub/lilo would be gone after winxp installation... Should I recover grub with gentoo liveCDs or should I reinstall gentoo from step 1 :)

Thanks all... Thanks LQ :)

As long as you don't install Windows over the Gentoo install you'll be fine. Windows XP thinks its the alpha operating system and will automagically take over the mbr. All you have to do is boot the gentoo livecd, chroot in, and run grub again telling it to install itself back to the mbr. Edit grub.conf and you'll be set.

No need to do a total re-install of Gentoo again.

How about booting system with Knoppix (Laptop doesn't have floppy drive) and partitioning with fdisk, then installing windows and finally gentoo? Is this possible and a better solution?

There is a linux base tool called qtparted a partition magic clone, you can use it to modify your disk

I know how to use fdisk so I don't think that I could need qtparted... Probably I'm going to boot with fedora disks and enter rescue mode... Then erase all data in my harddisk... I could also use rescueCd in the link... Thanks for the link!
