I want to colorize my bash console sessions the way they look in Gentoo, preferably for the whole box, every user including root.
Not sure how much more specific I can get...
Maybe some screenshots would be more specific. How does you gentoo console look? It’s not like everyone runs gentoo or even that all gentoo users have the same console settings.
In general, the system-wide bash prompt is in /etc/bashrc or something. Individual ones are in ~/.bashrc or similar. Most “coloring” is done using ANSI escape codes.
@osor: While it's true that not everyone uses the same console settings, the default Gentoo setup has a colourised prompt, which I haven't seen on the other distros I've tried.
@KoopaTroopa: The variable you're looking for in the bashrc is PS1. There are plenty of places on the net that demonstrate sample colourisations.
