Cool general curiosity abut ntfs

hello, this is more curiosity and ignorance on my part, but here goes-
i have a small network of two redhat 8.0 and two win xp with ntfs
partitions.
i have a samba server working(more or less), i can access/copy from redhat to xp pcs.
but on my dual boot redhat/xp, i cant mount the ntfs in redhat.
apparently i need to install ntfs support to mount the partition.
i am wondering why samba will allow for access/copying from an ntfs partition, but one cant mount ntfs partition.
really, just curious
i am working on the mount partition issue with the ntfs add in.

When using samba over the network, there is the WinXP networking layer that is handling the disk reads and writes when you are trying to access the partition. While when you are mounting the OS (linux) handles the reads/writes.

Redhat do not include ntfs support, look here for instructions on how to set ip up.
