Garbled icons in Gnome

frustrated with that kdeinit issue (see my other thread) I decided to give Gnome a go (if trickykid is using it it can't be *that* bad :D ). This is Gnome 2 on a RH 8.0 box. I have used it a little when I just installed rh 8.0, but soon i switched back to KDE.

I noticed now that the icons are very often garbled (not drawn propely), in the gnome start menu and in the windows as well. i don't understand what is causing this, changing the themes does not help,. and this kind of behaviour is completely random, i.e. different icons will display fine once and garbled the next time. Moving a cursor over such garbled icons straightens them out and then they look normal. This behaviour transfers to all the other GTK programs, even when not running in gnome (e.g. when running rox in Window Maker).

any ideas?

Heh, well obviously no-one encountered this problem, but I found the solution so I'll just post it here for future reference:

The problem is in the new Nvidia drivers, in particular the option "RenderAccel" - it is set to "true" by default, and if it does cause such garbling of icons, you should set it to "false" and it should be cool.

Setting or unsetting this option does not seem to have any effect on performance in my case.

Cheers!
