Full Screen Programs When Using Multiple Displays?
I want to be able to run fullscreen programs on the first monitor of a dual screen setup. Right now it centers the program across the two monitors. I guess it would work if I set up individual desktops for each monitor, but I still want to be able to drag programs between monitors...

what you want is xinerama.

I believe that is what I am using, my display spans two monitors. I want to be able to use full screen programs on only one monitor.

aha! you use gentoo! if you are using xinerama on gentoo you must add the xinerama use flag to /etc/make.conf and re-emerge everything. this happened to me and the problem was that though my X server supported xinerama none of my apps did; as the default is to not use xinerama unless the use flag is set.( and yes I know this will take a long time:( )

I have had the xinerama USE flag in make.conf. I used 'quse' to find all of the programs that depend on that flag and the ones I am trying to run (ppracer, zsnes, and any other full screen games) don't use it.

I think I misunderstood you. :( you are talking about fullscreen games and I was thinking maximised windows. I didn't have xinerama in my use flags and it would split the window across all 3 monitors. sadly I was never able to get fullscreen games to work properly with xinerama either. :( for a while I kept 2 xorg.conf files one for xinerama and the other just 1 screen so I could play games. now I'm down to just the 1 monitor and my tv with no xinerama. I send movies and games to the tv by setting DISPLAY=:0.1 ,but yes I lost the ability to drag from screen to screen. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Don't worry about it, thanks for your help. I guess it's not too much trouble to change a line in the xorg.conf, but there must be a way to do it. If I find out how it I'll post it here.
