fstab, mount and access rights...

Hello,

When I'm mounting cdrom access rights change from r-xr-x--- to r-xr-xr-x. What should I do (settings in fstab??) to make them stay unchanged? Line in fstab is:

/dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,gid=103,exec,user,ro,mode=550 0 0

But there is no difference what mode is set - rights are always changed to r-xr-xr-x.

And when I'm trying to set umask=227 I get:

mount: block device /dev/hdd is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdd,
or too many mounted file systems

Any idea what to do??

If I understand the parameters correctly, having 'user' in there means anyone (root, user, other = r-x,r-x,r-x). Try changing to 'users' to limit access to the members of the users group. That should exclude 'other' and leave permissions at (root, user = r-x,r-x,---).

Specifying the mode in octal (0550) works. However, if the filesystem has Rock Ridge extensions, permissions stored there are used instead. There seems to be no way to change them.

The umask option is for fat filesystem only.

I'm using Slackware. In man mount I found norock option, but it gives no result - still r-xr-xr-x... So I suppose that chown .<group_name> /mnt and chmod o-rwx /mnt is the best solution in this situation...
