Frozen Grub

Hi there,
I recently obtained a new sata harddrive, my first for this system. My intent was to install debian sarge onto this drive. After actually getting everything operational and sarge installed, I came apon a single disasterous problem.
Grub locks up while loading.
I have an ide disk as well, and while the sata controller is enabled, neigther disk will load grub. It just stops at "Grub Loading Stage 1.5". I can get lilo to work but it seems to have troubles with my debian and loading the kernels properly (acts weird, like disks not showing up and what not).

So obviously I need this working, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Kevin
