Free space error

df -k shows 6190692 allocated, 5879616 used, 0% available. I cannot create a file of any size on the file system or add to an existing file.

I use redhat v4 on an IBM Thinkpad T40 with the remainder of the hard drive allocated to Windows XP Pro.

Probably an ext3 file system. 5% is reserved for user root only. As root, "tune2fs -m" lets you set a different percentage.

I'd suggest just freeing up space. Having a filesystem that is full can lead to potential problems.

Thanks, the 5% makes sense as root can work while my id can't. I realize I have space issues but wanted to know what caused this to happen. Thanks again.
