A while ago I partitioned a part of my hard disk for an Ubuntu installation. I used grub to choose between ubuntu and windows when booting. Now I need to format the windows partition of the hard disk and figure I might as well try a different linux distro as well.
What I need to know is how to format the partition with ubuntu so that I can give that memory to the windows partition. Then I need to get rid of the Grub Bootloader. Then I will format windows, Giving me the same setup I had when I got the computer. Then I will repartition after I've decided on a new distro.
I forgot how to do most of that after installing Ubuntu. I also don't know how to go about getting rid of grub and using the default bootloader(ie automaticly boot the windows partition).
Any suggestions on procedure or software are greatly appreciated!
Are you sure that Grub will disappear? Fist thing I want to do is uninstall ubuntu(format that partition). I think at that point, GRUB is still on the MRB.
Also, what do I need to format the ubuntu partition?

You can repartition using a LiveCD. As for Grub, yes reinstalling Windows will over write it.
If you reinstall windows, it will rewrite the MBR with it's own.
you don't have to reinstall windows to get rid of Ubuntu though. It's a bit more complicated. You can delete the ubuntu partition and merge it with the windows ntfs one if you have a tool like Partition Magic (or other partitioning tool), then boot to the windows cd, open the recovery console, and type "fixmbr" and it will trash grub.
