font sever problem

i was trying to make my box (REdhat linux 8 )boot faster...
i discoverd chkconfig
and i switched off xfs(presuming that it was the file system by SGI and why the hell wud i need it)
the next time i started X i got the error message that
Using config fiel "/etc/X11/XF86config
_font transopwen :unable to find transport for unix
Couldnot inti font path element unix /:7100

Fatal sever error
couldnot open default font fixed.
i googled and got this site
http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue93/yuan.html
first i switched on xfs
/etc/init.d/xfs status- it gives the status running
i restarted it
fslsfonts -server unix/:7100 -ll -fn fixed --- i dont get the message given in the site
iget "Fixed"
"Fixed"
i rebuild the fonts list (as given in the website)
still

so i think iwill just rpm -e Xfree86-xfs
and then reinstall
is it ok to do this will it affect other files
expecting replies
thnx
for reading

xfs is a RedHat service. Have you tried "service xfs start" to start xfs?
