Fluxbox Background Problems
 

I'm very, very new to the linux world. I just installed Debian as my first Linux distribution (because Fedora is just stupid, and apt-get rules), and after testing out Gnome, it was way too clunky for my liking. Also, I want to use the terminal for most things, not the damn GUI.

So...I got Fluxbox!

I love it, but it's been very hard for me to configure it.

First of all, how does one edit the Fluxbox menus?

Second of all, why is it that the titlebar widths of different themes change drastically when I turn anti-aliasing on? Some look better with it, but some look much worse. How do I know if the screenshot on freshmeat, for example, is with the anti-aliasing or without? Is anti-aliasing worth it? I'm very confused about this.

Also, this is what I've been doing to install themes: I've been downloading the tarball, and extracting it into /usr/share/fluxbox/styles. It normally creates a folder for the theme, so I go into that folder, and move the actually style file into the styles directory (as opposed to the theme's own directory which is inside the styles directory). The problem with this is that I cannot get backgrounds to work! I don't know where on earth Fluxbox expects backgrounds. Some of the themes have created a backgrounds directory, fluxbox/backgrounds, but Fluxbox is not accessing this directory.

Help a newbie out! I'm really clueless. I don't really know how to go edit files or anything...eek!

P.S. How on earth do I change the acceleration and sensitivity of my mouse? The speed is like, hurting my wrist, and it's so sensitive that if I hover off of a menu for a split second I'm screwed. Any advice?

Also, I can't get fbdesk working or anything...I'm so lost!

To edit the menu
kedit ~/.fluxbox/menu
or substitute you favorite editor

To change background, edit the style file and change the path to the background. Sometimes the author expects the background in something like ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds and sometimes /usr/local/share/fluxbox/backgrounds
I have to edit the themes all the time

Also, is there something extra that I have to do with pixmap themes? What exactly is a pixmap theme, anyway?

Another way to do menus is run fluxbox-generate_menu. It's a simple shell script, so if it doesn't include some of your applications it's fairly easy to edit. An alternative to editing the script is adding a user menu which can be merged into the generated menu.

Mouse problem: You might check out "xset m"

Antialiasing: I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it has to do with the font used. Some fonts do not antialias, so perhaps another font is chosen.
