Unhappy Fluxbox?

Well my friend showed me a nice little thing for linux, called fluxbox. I would like to install it on my slackware computer... but dont exctly know how to... ive been told so manything i dont know where to start. I figured i should unarchive the fluxbox file... which i did and it created a bunch of other files (/urs/X11R6/share/fluxbox/....) stuff like that... i did this as root, and im now thinking i should have done it as a basic user, or so ive been told.
From here it says to change directories to the new fluxbox file and:
$ ./configure
$ make

The only problem is i dont know what the flux box file is, i cant find one set directory that would have any relavance to fluxbox...

Ok, you download the source code in a file called something like fluxbox-0.1.14.tar.gz. First you have to extract everything, so do:
tar xzf fluxbox-0.1.14.tar.gz

Then go into the new directory it made:
cd fluxbox-0.1.14

Then compile and install it:
./configure
make
make install (this one has to be done as root)

Then you should have it installed, if you have more questions post back.

if you've already installed it you might have some difficulties getting into it if you use a graphical login. if you use text based login just go to ~/.xinitrc and change it to say fluxbox (thats all you need but you can add other programs you want to automatically load *before* it), and then type startx.

The point to remember when you are extracting a Tarball is that it is typically extracted to your current working directory - you can find your current working directory with pwd - once youve cd'd into the newly extracted directory, you can carry on as normal.
