floppy drive problem + ASUS motherboard
 
Hi

I have ASUS P4S533MX board with Intel 1.8Ghz processor.I have linux redhat 9 (kernel 2.4.20). the who;e system either xwindow or teminal gets freeze if I issue a "mformat a:" command or tried to copy a file size of more than 300K to the diskette. I tried with linux 8 (kernel) 2.4.18-14) but same problem.I updated the BIOS also. still problem?

please anybody can guide on this?

Do you know that the floppy device and / or cable is good?
Did you try other floppy disks?
How's it work with the command: mkfs.vfat /dev/fd0
Does the copy work if using dd : dd if=file.txt of=/dev/fd0

the floppy drive is working in windows XP. I tried different floppy drive and cable too.
the mkfs.vfat command starts the floppy but the light keeps ON for ever same for the other command also
