Flash Player in Konqueror No Longer Works

Flash Player in Konqueror No Longer Works

I'm trying to watch stuff on youtube and I keep getting this message... "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." I'm having this issue in Konqueror. Flash works fine in Firefox. And it worked fine in Konqueror last night. I left my computer alone still logged on KDE. No one touched my computer and I didn't change anything since the last time flash in Konqueror worked. It just seemed to stop working all on it self. I'm running KDE/Konqueror 3.5.5 on opensuse 10.2

I renamed /.kde to /.kdeold. That seemed to fix the "error". Meaning flash was working in Konqueror with fresh settings. I even moved some config files back to the new /.kde to restore settings I didn't want to redo. And flash still worked even after logging off and on multiple times.

Yet for some reason, after going to bed last night (RIGHT after viewing youtube videos) it decides not to work again. I get up, get on youtube again and this time flash is broke again. I didn't even log off or change any thing. I went straight to youtube. I checked my settings and every thing. It's still all set to the defaults from the fresh settings.

Update: I tried Ctrl + Alt + Backspace, that didn't work. I tried rebooting, that didn't work. I tried renaming /.kde to /.kdeold then Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. That seemed to work for a little while. And then flash breaks again. I figured it had something to do with KDE. So I though I tried narroing it down. I deleted every thing in /.kde except /.kde/share then Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. Log back in, still nothing. I deleted every thing in /.kde/share except for /.kde/share/apps and /.kde/share/config. Ctrl + Alt + Backspace, log back on and still nothing.

At this point I've narrowed it down to two folders and flash still doesn't work.

I rename /.kde/share/apps to /.kde/share/appsold then Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. Log back on and still no flash. I rename /.kde/share/config to /.kde/share/configold then Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. I log back on load up youtube and oh look at that flash is working. So I've managed to narrow it down to /.kde/share/config.

Now I decide to try something else. I would drag files in groups of 20 or so from /.kde/share/configold back to and I take a screen shot so I have a record of what files I put back. Each time I did this I would Ctrl + Alt + Backspace and try flash. Flash continued to work through this process all the way to the last file.

Well I moved all files in /.kde/share/configold back to /.kde/share/config and flash is still working. At the point I'm stumped. I thought I would be able to narrow it down to a single config file that was causing flash not to work in the first place. Well as I said, all the old config files are back and flash is working when before it was broke when using the exact same config files.

I don't know what kind of "voodoo" is going on here, but moving /.kde/share/config to /.kde/share/configold then Ctrl + Alt + Backspace logging on, then moving /.kde/share/configold back to /.kde/share/config seems to get flash working again even though they're the same config files.

It would seem apparent KDE is designed with pixie dust that's beyond my conprehension and works on some kind of anti-logic. :-s At this point, Flash seems to be working (for now any way).

Update: I believe I know (some what) the cause of my problem's. I was also having an issue where if I click on a PNG file in Konqueror as a file manager the file is suppose to fill up the window giving you a preview. Instead, I was gettin an error in the window about netscape and plugins missing or something along those lines. I wish I remembered the exact error or could reproduce the error to take a screen shot.

Any way, I believe what was causing all the problems had to do with packages I had installed. I'm not sure which one specifically was doing it. Here's a screen shot of some of the packages I had installed. After removing them all the issues went away. :-)
