Flash player consuming 100% of CPU

Hi,

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04, Firefox 4 and the latest version of Flash. My other machine specs are

power management:

When visiting some web sites that use Flash, there occasionally seem to be hung Flash processes, for example

Code:

24749 selenium  20  0 75796  14m 8928 R  25  0.7 280:09.38 npviewer.bin
 1974 selenium  20  0 75668  14m 8928 R  25  0.7  4:54.28 npviewer.bin
14618 selenium  20  0 80464  19m 9.8m R  25  0.9 210:08.32 npviewer.bin
32061 selenium  20  0 85548  19m  10m R  25  1.0 180:32.49 npviewer.bin
12805 selenium  20  0 78148  15m 9664 R  25  0.8 215:39.27 npviewer.bin
19385 selenium  20  0 76252  14m 8924 R  25  0.7 105:07.66 npviewer.bin

that consume 100% of the CPU. Since this is a virtual machine, it is causing concern in our environment b/c other virtual machines are impacted. Any ideas how to coax this plugin to use less CPU?

Thanks, - Dave

I can't help you get it working, but a workaround would be to install the Flashblock addon for Firefox. It replaces flash animations with an empty box, which you can click to load the flash if you want. It's the first addon I install when I'm setting up a machine.

It is likely on your setup. I have yesterday's technology, AthlonXP 32 bit w/firefox 4 and 1 gig of ram I never see stray processes or 100% of my (comparatively puny) cpu. On this site

I get around 50% probably grabbed by feeding the ati graphics card. I have slackware-13.37. Put this in as ~/.mms.cfg and see if it helps.
