Firstboot - Level 5 even if not setup

Hi guys,

I have been installing some CentOS/RHEL4 machines and realise that even though I didn't specify X Window during installation, it will still default to level 5 startup unless I change the inittab to go straight to runlevel3.

And if i use a valid user/password to login from there, I get thrown to a KDE desktop.

Does that mean GUI is being installed even though I specified I don't want it?

I tried disabling xfs from running on startup, but when I do a reboot (going into level 5 still), the screen will take very long to even show command prompt and telling me X respawns too many time.

Its not a big problem, since i can edit inittab and everything is solve. Just that it bugs me knowing that there are files installed even though I don't want them.

Yes it means that the GUI is being installed. Something in your package selection at initial setup seems to require a GUI, so you may have to refine your package selection.

I've selected the following:

Editor (VIM)
FTP Server
Text Based Internet (elinks)
Development Tools (Default)
Compatibility Arch Development Support (Default)
Legacy Software Development (Default)
Compatibility Arch Support (Default)

I left them at default as without them at all, I can't install MySQL without having to manually go find the dependencies... I suppose it must be one of them.. but you reckon what I really need for MySQL? The machine is for dB purpose

I think elinks needs some xorg related files because it can show images. As for mysql, installing it should be as simple as
Code:
#yum install mysql mysql-server
I doubt that mysql needs a GUI, unless you install MysQL Amdinistrator.
