Firestarter and TOP ?

I am using firestarter firewall and it has an option to hide the program while its running. I have an icon that says its running in my taskbar but when i open a console and use TOP i dont see it running anywhere. Is that normal? thanks

Perhaps it's not one of the top processes. Have you tried checking the process table using ps?

I believe Firestarter runs it's script to start iptables and then exits. If you need to see if it is working try iptables -L

You can use it either way. Start it and leave it running as an icon on the taskbar or exit. Back to the question...if you see it on the taskbar, then

ps -ef |grep fire
or
System Tools-->System Monitor then search for fire.

If it ever shows up in a top, you either have a runaway program or are under heavy attack.
