hi everybody
has anyone worked on 'f.i.r.e.' from fire.dmzs.com
it provides tools for forensic analysis and virus scanning etc etc.
i got my self a copy of this
now the problem i am facing is that it is running into runlevel 3
it is not booting into Xserver i.e runlevel 5
also my intel i810 graphics cards is supported
pl. help
When you're booting to runlevel 3, you can aways start X using 'startx' command. But first, you need to have correct configuration (the most important thing is graphica card). The configuration file is /etc/X11/XF86Config. Inside, you'll find 'Section "Device"' and line with driver. Change the driver name to i810, if it's not already set. Then run startx.
hey there
thanx for replying
i have treid 'startx'
but it does not start any kind of desktop i.e. kde, gnome etc
but simply a screen with a menu of tasks that could be carried out comes,
this is the default display whilke booting into runrevel 3
i have also tried looking and changing /etc/X11/XCONFIG file
i tried to change the runlevel to 5 which was default to 3
after that i tried 'startx'
then too the same result
If you really need a runlevel 5 forensics cdr distro, Google for "PSK", the "Penguin Sleuth Kit". It's based on Knoppix. Haven't diffed apps against FIRE, but you should be able to load any missing ones over from floppy or ftp.
