Finding the NIC Card Driver

alright im fed up with fedora core and having to spend hours downloading rpms and all the random dependencies they have so im moving on to gentoo which i hear is alot better. The only problem is that i have a problem with my system detecting it's nic card or something, it is with eth0. I have read other forums saying that i probably have the wrong nic card driver installed and how to change it, the only problem is that i dont know what my nic card is because i took it from an older computer that i had from a while ago. So is there anyway to fiond out my nioc card on the system that can only boot the gentoo live cd. Other people have suggested that i use knoppix to identify my nic card, but i cant put knoppix on a cd. i had nero and that did it fine before but now i dont have it anymore and cant knoppix to burn right. SO anyway to make the question shorter, is there anyway to identify which nic card and which nic card driver i need to install, by using the gentoo universal live cd?
