Exclamation finding compatible software and adding a video cam

I recently bought an ASUS Eee PC series laptop. It's the micro lappie with Linux installed. I thought it had an installed web cam but it does not. Is there a web cam I can add? I would also like to know a bit about available software. The OS on this seems extremely basic. It has software on it I don't need like elementary level math and science and it says I cannot remove it. I need some serious help before I throw this thing and break a window.

Thanks

Logitech webcams seem to work ok. You can also google for Linux-compatible brands and models.

I have no such Eee PC, but I would guess that if you cannot remove installed software it's because you try to uninstall software as a regular user. You must have administrator level rights to uninstall or install software, which I suppose you get on those machines, too, by using the sudo command; but as such things are not usually installed by default I get the impression that maybe you're looking at the list of installable software, which doesn't mean it's actually on the system.

I'll try the logictech. re your other comments; I am logged in as administrator. It says in the manual that came with the computer that certain programs cannot be removed. I tried a few back doors into the system but none of them work. I'm not sure what version of Linux I have but it is very basic. I do have some programs that have not been installed and I'm given the option to do so, but the ones I want to remove are installed and functional.

Thanks for the info on logitech. I'll check it out
