Question Finally joined the Linux Community

I love to support everything running UNIX/LINUX. I am Server Support Tech from Cartago,Costa Rica working for Hewlett Packard. One of my Customer has an issue with a Proliant Server DL320 G5 running RHEL5.

The problem is this model has an Integrated Intel 82801GR Serial ATA Host Controller with RAID 0/1 support. When my customer finished the installation of the OS and pulls out one of the Hard Drives for testing the RAID support, the OS crashes and wishes to know what would happen if effectively one hard Drive fails and why this RAID 1 congiguration does not act as back up while a new Hard drive is installed in order to start recoverying.

Any help, article or information link will be appreciated.

Tks,

Alejandro.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-General and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

First, it should not crash. Simply print a message that one of the disks is missing and recover. It's worth checking if raid was set up correctly.

The HOWTO http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO.html is a good reference, including the correct reaction when the disk is removed.
