filesystem integrity
 

i keep my linux box up all the time. lately. however, i've run into a problem because of electrical outages in my building (and blown fuses). of course, as a result, my systems go down.

should i be worried? i notice upon bootup that the errors are checked and fixed, so what should my concerns be, and what can i run to ensure that the system doesn't have any errors on it?

You may want to consider moving to reiserfs (http://www.namesys.com/) or one of the other journaling filesystems. A UPS is probably a good idea also.

I know that with my linux-mandrake install once i pushed the power off button without properly shutting down the fs, wow was that a mistake LOL

I just wanted to pass the word along that JFS from IBM seems to have some serious problems.

I reformated my reiserfs partitions as jfs partitions and everything seemed well. Except recently, I rebooted my system for the first time since I started to use JFS and all of my partitions failed to mount. ( I changed fstab and all that ) I could mount the partitions read-only but no matter what I did, I just couldn't get it to read-write.

The wierdest thing was is that if I reformatted the partition, then I could mount, read and write to it. But as soon as I reboot, the problem starts again.

Needless to say, I went back to reiserfs. I just wished I would have stuck with it from the beginning.
