File recovery after partition table damage - XFS file system

I've lost data from a Snap Server 1000 (the original 15Gb one) - no, I didn't back it up, the bl**dy thing was my backup medium! - due to a power outage.

I know that it's an embedded Linux device, and I understand that it uses the XFS file system. Having run a diagnostic on the drive inside - it's a bog-standard Quantum IDE drive - I know that the drive electronics themselves are fine.

Are there any XFS recovery tools that I can use? Anyone got any advice having been in this position before (apart from "start using RAID", that is... )?

I don't use XFS, but shouldn't you use "xfs_repair"? Be warned tho everything that is recovered may be connected to /lost+found.

Thanks...

I have since come across these tools, but that particular one is (I understand) sensitive to read errors, so that it would be better to copy using dd to an image file first.

I'm not sure about how to calculate the parameters for dd though...

In fact, I am having second thoughts about a DIY attempt and have asked VOGON for a quote - ooooooer! I have a horrible feeling it will have four figures, and I don't mean £10.00!

Many thanks for the response, unSpawn.

Hi

You used some file recovery software.

Do you have any idea where I should start for something similar for Mac OSx 10.6?

I'm quite confident using the command line iof I can get a relevant tool

Cheers

Martin
