file permissions not being remembered for SAMBA printer files/directories
Hi fellow Linux users.
I have a server that is running Mandrake MNF operating system. Kernel 2.4.18-8 and I think Samba 2.2.3a, old I know. I will be upgrading my kernel to the latest 2.4 soon. Anyhow, I have a Lexmark network printer connected via TCP/IP Ethernet. The server uses lprng to print to it. The users, who allhave Windows, use Samba to connect to it via a share driver: \\SERVER\lp. The problem is that the permissions for the file "/etc/printcap" and directory "/var/spool/lp" keep resetting themselves so that only root can read/write to them. This prevents the Windows users from even being able to connect at all as obviously, the users are not connecting as root. Even the server itself cannot use the printer until I reset the printcap permissions and the spool directory permissions. -rw------- /etc/printcap drwx------ /var/spool/samba/lp They not only seem to reset after a reboot but also after a specific amount of time has passed. Any ideas? Thanks. |
