File permission corruption?

This install seems to have developed a file permissions corruption problem, maybe after something crashed, and I have no idea how to resolve it.

The problem manifests itself mainly with SeaMonkey not being able to save/update the list of opened tabs when the computer shuts down (there are other things) and Vuze not updating automatically. Vuze actually tells me it doesn't have the permission to update, but SM doesn't report any error.

Can anyone think of how to resolve this?

Vuze is a particular problem if you install as root (or with root privileges) and then run as a normal user which is when the update attempts are made. If you have only one Vuze user then you can simply change the ownership of the Vuze program directory and files (for example /opt/vuze and contents but could be somewhere else).

Yes, you're probably correct about Vuze because I was just now able to update it through a terminal. I'll look into its permissions. Thanks!

Any idea about SeaMonkey? I've seen permissions get messed up/corrupted before (especially in Windows), but I have no idea how to fix them in Linux so they stay fixed, if that is the problem.

No wonder Linux doesn't have that much popularity, with this kind of nonsense.

Vuze doesn't have its folder where you said in /opt. It was in /usr, at least it is for this install. Linux Mint only has 4.2 in its repository for this older install, so I installed 4.4 instead. I found instructions of how to change permissions for folders and I changed it to my ID. I won't know until later, when I try to update again, if it will work.
