File does not exist/Large file support

Hello!
I did a streamdump with mplayer -dvd 1 -dumpstream of a DVD yielding a 6.4 GB file on a partition that's just 71 MB larger than the file. Now I always get a 'file does not exist' message when trying to manipulate it. MPlayer can play the content though,so I'm sure the file isn't corrupted.
Now my question:

I'm using Mandrake 9.1 with the 2.4.21 Kernel and an ext3 file system. Does this config already support large files > 2 GB (LFS) or do I have to compile my own kernel? Could - if necessary - large file support be loaded as a kernel module? Or is there another way to solve my 'file does not exist' problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hey dreamtheater, still out there?

Did you ever resolve this problem?

I'm having similar troubles creating dvd images.
