Question File checking (MD5) across multiple drives

I'm wondering if it is possible to do MD5 checking of files across multiple drives or folders on a NAS/SAN.

Example - User A has a shared folder with Linux distro's ISO's. User B wants to download some ISO's and I'd like to be able to check to see is the ISO is already located on USER A's drive/folder. There will be an MD5 file on USER A's shared folder (or a central "public MD5" folder) - When the download is initiated, the MD5 will be received, checked and the user will be notified as to whether it is already locally available.

Now I'm not sure if there is some package available on a linux distro or not, or how to search for this function. Does anyone know if something like this is possible or available?
