Angry fetchmail not fetching

My mail system has worked fine for a year. I haven't done anything lately other than normal user stuff and have made no changes to my mail system. This is the message I get when I try to fetchmail.

5 messages for (blank) at pop.pdq.net (11811 octets).
reading message 1 of 5 (2293 octets).
fetchmail: timeout after 0 seconds
waiting for listener to respond.
fetchmail: client/server synchronization error while fetching from
pop.pdq.net
fetchmail: Query status=ERROR

I noticed on qps that I don't have fetchmail listed as accepting connections as it usually is listed.

Redhat 6.2 on i486

thanks if you can help.

well, the only thing i can think of is that first message is corrupt, the way i use to delete a message like that on my pop server is that i would telnet into the server and issue the command

dele 1

and this would be from a windows machines as my pop servers i keep hosted offsite. if you have a way to delete that first message and then try to download the rest, i think it is just corrupt and is the problem.
