Fedora Core 5 too obsolete?
 

I found my old Fedora Core 5 DVD in a drawer. At 2+ years old, is it too obsolete to keep? I didn't like it when I tried it--that's why it was in a drawer--but I remember that it was a perfect example of how I rush to judgment: I tried it for less than an hour. I could give it another try, but only if a distro from 2006 is worth the bother.

Its ok to play with, but there are 2 things to be aware of:

1. that version is no longer updated (hasn't been for a while), so its potentially vulnerable
2. for the same reason, if your HW is too leading edge you may have issues.

Remember that its free, so there's no real loss in trying it.

FYI, F8 & 9 are current and F10 is due out end of this month. iirc, that means F8 will no longer be updated
(BTW, they dropped the 'Core' part of the name after v6 iirc).

I'd try something more recent, simply because you'll probably have a better experience.

Yeah. What's your F9 like? I prefer leading edge rather than bleeding edge, but I've heard a lot of horror stories about F9. Would you recommend it or should i wait a bit till F10 stabilizes?

Was that aimed at me?

My F9 is fine. I generally accept that Fedora is a play system for me. I like the new bits on it, and if I'm worried about stability I use something else. Mind you, I tried KDE4 as well, so I guess I was feeling brave that day.
