I'm using rsync myself.
Plug in external drive then
Code:
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/backup
rsync -ar /home/enine /mnt/backup -exclude virtualbox
umount /dev/sdb1
then unplug and put it back in the safe

Ok, I ran the rsync. It worked better than the utility I first used however, it leaves me in the same boat and with more issues.

I compared the amount of files and disk space of my home directory and it was not even close to what was copied over to my external hard drive. The command I used was:

rsync -a /home/mike /media/mike/MIKE

This created a DIR on my external hard drive called "mike".

The new problem I have are the errors it produced. The external hard drive is a 2TB drive with 90% of it free. Space is not an issue. In fact, the hard drive in my laptop is 500GB. However, I was getting errors towards the end of the process of not enough space available among other errors. The attached text document is a copy of all the output from the terminal.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks!!

Mike
