Extend ext2/ext3 file size limit

I am using a default installation of RH9 and am having problems creating files larger than 16GB. I have set all file size limits to "unlimited" via the ulimit command... and I am still having the problem. I came across a number of articles that talk about file size limits in ext2/ext3 file systems. It has something to do with block sizes (1K, 2K, 4k, etc.). I believe that there may be a kernal patch available somewhere, but I haven't been able to find any details about it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks.
