rohit-sk 07-27-2005 06:28 AM

i would like to know whether we can access that file from my linux machine

acid_kewpie 07-27-2005 07:09 AM

erm yeah..

1) don't mark threads as urgent. I can assure you it's not urgent for me at all, and doubt it is for anyone else here

2) Use a title that actually says somethign about your problem

3) DON'T SHOUT

4) don't use ..........................'s all over the place, they serve no purpose.

5) Say please and thank you

6) Linux doesn't use "exe" files... please rephrase your question in a more useful way, with more information.

rohit-sk 07-27-2005 07:18 AM

SOO...RY

HAI
MY PROBLEM IS THAT
I HAVE A DICTIONARY CD IN MY HAND AND
I HAVE INSTALLED IN WINDOWS.

BUT WHEN I VIEWED THE CD IN LINUX, I DO'NT SEE
ANY "SETUP.EXE" FILE IN THAT CD.MANY OTHER FILES
ARE NOT SEEN.

Nylex 07-27-2005 07:47 AM

What do you need the setup.exe for? As acid_kewpie said, Linux doesn't use .exe files. Again, don't shout!

acid_kewpie 07-27-2005 08:07 AM

you see that key that says "CAPS LOCK" on it? use it....

rohit-sk 07-27-2005 09:09 AM

my dear friend
i know that exe won't work in linux but it is possible with wine or any crossover software.

Half_Elf 07-27-2005 10:54 AM

Let's say this in a more simple way :
You CAN NOT use WINDOZE APPLICATION in linux. That's it. Period.

Later if you (doubt so) stick with linux, you will learn there is some way to "emulate" windoze. For now, consider that you can't.

NOW if you want help in installing, configuring, using wine, wineX or cedega... ask about it, not some obscure question like "I can't see my .exe". If you want help, you better ask something like "I tried to do this and this but it failed there..." or "I don't understand how to perform this and this"

Half_Elf 07-27-2005 11:02 AM

You need SAMBA to access windoze shared files. Then using "smbclient" (see "man smbclient" for details) or mounting (giving the "-t smbfs" option to mount) the drive you could access your windoze shared files. if you don't have samba (like if "smbclient" return command not found) you need to INSTALL it.

Ok now... like some people told you in others thread, Linux IS NOT Windoze. This mean, at first that you CAN NOT use windoze system files in Linux. You could access them but you will NOT be able to use them to configure your linux. No way to do so.

Plus, Linux isn't point and click, you maybe noticed this yet, you will have to _learn_ how to use it first. Delay your urgent project and please _stop_ marking all your post as "URGENT", you will not be able to manage a linux box (even if we tell you all the steps) unless you learn how linux works first.

You seem to break all kinds of rules.. Read this thread and then start asking questions here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=103564

If you have wine installed, point it to the setup.exe and pray you don't need anything else required or installed for it to work properly.

What setup.exe is this for anyways? If you actually provide real information, it wouldn't be a guessing game for our members here who come here to help people like you in their own spare FREE time..

Perhaps if or when you provide the necessary information, we can tell you if it will actually work or not or point you to Open Source alternatives/equivalents you can possibly use instead.

I fail to see the reasoning of trying to run Windows compiled applications on Linux systems. Got a Windows application, run it on Windows, got a Linux application, run it on Linux.. or install VMWare or the like if you desperately need one OS in another, etc.
