Every app segfaults, every liveCD/DVD kernel panics. I dunno what to do.

My friend's PC recently started acting up. He had me install Sabayon on it and everything was fine until a few days ago. Every app I try to run after the PC boots results in a segmentation fault. I figured maybe something was wrong with the HDD, so I tried to boot from a DSL liveCD to run fsck, but it wouldn't boot; it freezes right away. I then tried the Sabayon LiveDVD and got a kernel panic.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I am completely clueless; I've never had anything like this happen before.

Yeah, he had actually just bought another 2GB of RAM to put in the system. I made sure all the timings and voltages were okay, but it's very possible one of the sticks died. I'll try to run memtest86 and see what happens.

The only time I've seen errors about segfaults it was the cdrom couldn't read.
