EU (or UK?) based Debian dedicated server rental
Morning!
I'm looking at replacing my current US-based server with something a bit closer to home and, ideally, more powerful.
Any reccomendations? I'm willing to pay a bit more for a better service or more reliable track record, but there's precious few ways of finding who's got the best without going for a whole load of bad ones first.
Only real requirement is Debian (or something related).
Cheers!

The only way to do this is to know how much you want to spend, what you need hosting and why Debian? (not that Debian is bad, just that's a very specific need).

I look after a collection of computers all running debian and its derivatives, and I'm just very used to it. The server I'm looking at replacing runs Fedora Core and, while I know it's not /that/ different, it's enough to mildly irritate me. Mostly Yum vs Apt, but also the whereabouts of config files and the portability of my shell scripts.
Would I be paying a premium for Debian or Ubuntu over something like FC or CentOS?
I'm looking at £40-£50 per month, ideally a little less.
The current one is a single cored P4 chip with 512m of RAM for $40 per month from Superb Hosting.

I believe that most hosts, in the UK at least, go with Red Hat or similar simply because of the name and the support - it gives their customers a sense of security. You may be able to find a non-RH server host but I think they will be "one-man-bands".

Try Strato.
They offer a range of different servers with a handful of Linux choices (Debian included) and if you don't like theirs, it's perfectly possible to throw it away and install your own. (We've got a Slackware on one of ours, for example and I had a Suse-based for 2 years...)

It's a german company with server hosting in several european countries, possibly not very well know in the UK, though. (Definetely not a one man band, one of the largest and oldest here..)

Oooh, they sound nice and flexible.
Do they make it easy to upgrade packages? What's the connection speed consistency like?
If I do go for it, do you have an affiliate link?
