Esoniq and Red Hat 7.1 - Sound problem

Esoniq VIVO on Red Hat 7.1. Sound works fine after runningsndconfig until I reboot. Then, no sound, just a popping static. I attempt to run sndconfig and get 'error accessing /dev/Audio'. I reboot again and can run sndconfig and get sound. I checked the boot log and see the Esoniq being detected and loaded without any errors. Thanks in advance.

I've had a similar problem on slackware 8 with an Esoniq AudioPCI card ever since I installed, it is very annoying.

were you logged in as root the first time when it worked? it could be permission problems with the /dev/audio block.
