esd amplifying

Hello

is there a possibility to (pre-)amplify the output of esd?? I couldn't find anything apropriate in the man page. I have recognized that the output of my soundcard is much louder using windows than using slackware. Yes, i have tried to set the ouput level to 100% under linux!!!

Any hints??
