Errors with grub

Hi all. I hope someone can help me here.
I've tried to use grub as a bootloader, and I wrote the grub.conf file as well as the correct partition table on the hd. The problem is that now, after I select the os I want to boot, I receive this error:

Code:
Block device /dev/hda1 is not a valid root device...
The root block device is unspecified or not detected. Please specify a device to boot.
What could be the problem?
Thanks.

More information needed

Please post more information; there isn't enough here for anyone to understand what your problem is. My recommendation is to post:

1. Your system configuration. How is your hard drive set up? How many partitions and what you've put in them? Other operating systems?

2. Your grub.conf file.

3. The last successful command before you got the error message. How far did Grub get before it crashed?

Also, try searching for 'Grub' on this bb; there are many questions already answered.

Good luck,
deadbug

Best post your grub.conf (or a link to it) and your hard drive parameters - the output from (as root) should do it.
Code:
fdisk -l /dev/hda
Cheers,
