Error while booting new kernel

Hi,

I am using mandriva linux. recently I downloaded latest kernel (2.6.30) and successfully compiled and installed it. But problem comes when I reboot with the new kernel. During booting it says, error inserting [some-module-name(eg: ide-core.ko)] invalid module format and after that the kernel panics.I know that the problem is with initrd.img.The modules present in the initrd has some problem( I think wrong kerenl version). Tried all sort of things like extracting individual modules from initrd and checking. The initrd.img I am using is automatically built during kernel installation. I tried using manually built initrd also . still no go...did anyone had a similar issue?
if so please help me...

Well, why don't you just compile the things you need at boot in the kernel, instead of compiling them as modules and including into the inird image?
"Wrong module format" usually means the modules you're trying to load are compiled for a different kernel. Make sure that when you make your own initrd.gz manually, you give the mkinitrd command the correct kernel version (the -k switch).
