Error in TAR - tar: GNU features wanted on incompatible archive format.

Following is my TAR command :

tar --xattrs -c -f '/mtpts/VG2-LV_ADMIN_Q1/Pr/bkup2.tar.bz2' --bzip -l --rsh-command=\/usr\/bin\/ssh '/mtpts/13Aug09_1226_VG2-LV_ADMIN_Q/ch'

Gives me following error :
tar: GNU features wanted on incompatible archive format

However if I remove --xattrs it works fine.

Please help me out.

If it works when you change your Rsh command to "--rsh-command=/bin/ls /tmp" for testing purposes then are you sure "--rsh-command=\/usr\/bin\/ssh '/mtpts/13Aug09_1226_VG2-LV_ADMIN_Q/ch'" should produce the same? Doesn't SSH work like "ssh user@host 'command_to_perform'"?

I tried the command according to your suggestion but its not working.
There is some problem with the option "xattrs", removing this option the command works fine. And also this happens only for some specific data, for some directories "xattrs" is working but for some it is not.

Show me the command you used and the output and your tar version?

My ESP is low today so I do welcome full commandlines, verbose output and exact error postings.
