Error activating swap partition

I have just installed redhat 7.2 on my 1.2gb hd. The iso images that I used were on a primary slave hd which had both linux and windoz on it. My problem is, during the installation, it wanted to delete any info on my swap file on this slave hd (hdb5). I said ok, and the installation seemed to go ok. After I removed the hd with the iso images on it from the computer and started my new linux box, during boot it says "Activating swap partitions: swapon: /dev/hdb5: no such device or address". It then goes on to say [fail] instead of [ok].

I assume what happened was that it used the swap file from the hd that already had a linux install on it (the same on that had the iso images - hdb).

My questions is, how do I fix this problem? The 1.2gb hd, had no files on it, and I let the linux install disk delete all partitons, and let it create its own.

well you cn make a new swap partition using mkswap, but it seems your parition doesn't exist at all, rather than being recognised wrongly or such. what does 'fdisk -l' give you? there's meant to be a reference to hdb5 as linux swap (82) if the swap partition has somehow changed it's number, then you should be able to just edit the /etc/fstab file and chagen the address accordingly.

Thanks for your fast reply!

I did as you suggested, and edited the /etc/fstab file. It had two references to a swap file. One was hda3, and the other hdb5. I removed the reference to hdb5, and now it starts up no problem

Thanks.....
