Error 21 on GRUB - I don't think computer will recognize my USB...

Well, I tried to install Ubuntu linux onto my MP3 (E:/ drive, through USB) I wake up this morning to try to boot up the computer... and it gives me an error.
It said (on a black screen, right after the initial Dell loading screen) GRUB Error 21.

I booted Ubuntu linux from the CD and the Mp3 player wouldn't show up on the screen like it ususally does. I tried unplugging it and re plugging it in, but nothing worked. After that, I did a bit of research on the Error 21. I think my problem is that the Mp3 isn't being "seen" by the computer.

I need to figure out how to either reinstall it onto my mp3 or get into windows xp.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks, I can provide more info if you need it.

there are 3 issues common to most grub-usb questions

1) does your bios allow (after flashing etc) usb devices as booting devices....I assume you know how to get into yours

2) you can not currently use grub on mbr for a hard drive to boot a usb stick.....you can use a correct bios to boot to an usb stick direct if

3) your usb stick has a linux format boot partition (minimium) and a mbr with grub in it.

you can easily check if you usb stick has linux on it using a peek with your linux file manager and a few tricks to see its mbr.

however, from you post its not entirely clear it you selected grub to be installed into the mbr of the stick?

Well, I somewhat fixed the problem. I ended up partitioning my harddrive and installing linux to a new partition. Only bad thing now is that my mp3 won't work. It isn't "seen" by the computer and when I try to turn it on, it says FILE SYSTEM CORRUPTED and then shuts off. If the manufacturer won't fix it for me, I think I'll try to open it up (that will be my last option).

well I think you have an operating system...failed or not on that usb drive so you can not expect ms to see it.

do a google and find out what format the usb mp3 was b4 you put linux on it.

then reformat it to that format?

for a normal usb memory stick ....it is fat16 aka ms-dos.

however you may want to read this
http://www.ntcompatible.com/NTFS_to_...on_t34936.html

Bear in mind that you have already....mucked up your old system.....so you either fix it or go back to whatever the mp3 player format was.
