editing the kernel config file


if i wish to manually tweak something in my kernel which file shall i open.

the .config file in /usr/src/linux ?

i can see the parameter in the text file that i need to enable but i can't find it in menuconfig

Yes, although using "make menuconfig" or "make xconfig" will probably be easier.

Its just one little tiny parameter in need to change

its a recompile of a kernel built with menuconfig.

Using menuconfig I have been through the device block sections a half dozen times now and can't find any reference to my ide chipset ?!!

However I found it in .config using grep.

Anyway thnks for your help.
