Editing partitions

Hey,

I'm trying to hunt around for a way to resize partitions but I can't find any so far apart from Gparted, which didn't work...

I'm trying to shrink my Ubuntu partition so I can enlarge my XP partition as I've ran out of space on that one because I made it too small by accident when I reformatted a week or so ago.

Does anyone know a good way of doing this?

What doesn't work?
You need to unmount in order to resize.
You could download a live cd, and start gparted from there.

Unmount what?

A good start would be to post the output of fdisk -l command so we can know your partition structure. You should use a disk partitioning tool such as GParted or Parted Magic or a Live CD to do this. You umount the partitions you are re-sizing. If you only have the two partitions you mentioned it should be fairly simple.

if your trying to run gparted from your ubuntu to shrink your ubuntu partition, it probabley won't let you. your best bet as mentioned by repo is to run gparted from a live cd to shrink the ubuntu partition and expand the xp partition. run gparted from your ubuntu installaion/live cd
