DVD+/-RW question

Recently I've bought a DVD recorder and I've downloaded some RPMs for my Mandrake.

I wanted to create an useful storage place for these, and I found somewhere on the Web that I can formatt a DVD+RW in a desired filesystem. Somewhere else I read that it's possible to delete single files from a DVD+RW. Is this possible and how?

I don't want to need to write the whole disc because I need to update 1 rpm.

And one more question: how to create a hdlist under Mandrake 10.0?

YOu can append files to the dvd rw in other words you can add files and I believe remove files from the dvd rw. Try installing k3b thats probably the best tool. Do not install from source unless all dependancies have been satisfied. Use the tool for installing for the version of linux you are using e.g. apt for debian, yum for fedora up2date for rh and so on and on.

If you format the DVD +RW disk with the MRW option (aka Mt Rainier aka EasyWrite) you can put any file system on the DVD. The MRW is sposed to be in 2.6 kernel. You also need a DVD drive that supports the MRW option. Not many are on the market yet.
