DVD MPEG Movies have bad sound
 

I think this is the right forum, but it may need to be in software.

When I create a DVD movie, or convert to MPEG, from another format like AVI, I get static in the sound. I know other people have had this problem and I fixed it once a long time ago. I can't remember what I did, and I'm on a new install. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 if that makes much difference, but I know the problem has something to do with the MPEG compression.

Any suggestions?
