Hi every one ,
i'm new and this is my first post , i'm very very new to Lunix too , i just installed it , and i don't know what happened when i was insatlling it , but from the booting screen when i choose to boot at windows XP it doesn't go there and it says that there are two files missing !! i guess there is some problem with the boot table , but i don't know how i happened !! ( there is one thing that might help : when installing red hat 9 i choose the boot partition different from the one that has XP on it - if this is the problem is there any way that i can change that ? )
i know that here is Anti-Microsoft place , but i still have no idea how lunix works just like most of the people , but i made my decision to break the general rule !! but you know it takes time , you will never be able to change in one step right ?
and another question please , how can i access the other parts of my hard drive !! i don't know but when i check the folder it only shows some wired folders ( wired for microsoft users ! )
First : "This place" is not adamantly "Anti-Microsoft" , though quite a few members are.(Yours truly , for instance )
As for your problem : To be able to see other partions , you have to tell Linux so in the file /etc/fstab.
I recommend to read the manpage on that one.("man fstab" in a console)
Thanks !! i'll look for it ..
by the way i solved the problem .. i guess it was because of this :
when choosing the list of the OS that will appear when i start the computer , there was a DOS option which was using hd1 , and i have windows XP installed on that part and using it for booting , so i guess that caused conflict between the two systems , so i reinstalled the linux , and deleted the DOS from the list , and it worked !!
now it's time to know what's about linux !!
you'll be bothered with lots of questions .. hehe .. take it easy ..
( sorry for saying " This Place " it didn't know it could offened anyone .. my english is just not good enough .. )

Nah....
Not offended.(That would a tad too dense , now wouldn't it? )
More like : I consider the word "place" as an indication of a physical location. Not very applicable on the 'net , unless we're talking about that particular place , the server is located(physically , that is)
Just me , being a prick over semantics.
And about your English : Don't sweat it : I've seen MUCH worse on the 'net and this board in particular.
And from those , who are supposed to speak(and write) it natively.....
And you might have guessed it as well : It's not my native tongue either.....
And : Yes ; Starting several sequential sentences with "and" is , from a grammatical point of view , VERY bad form.
And I could go on like this for hours.....

DOS is what Redhat labels as Windows in the bootloader. Choosing it should have booted you to your Windows partition if you installed the bootloader to your MBR. Since you didn't there is no harm in removing it.
Megamieuwsel , day by day all languages are loosing there structure beauty , but anyways , when using a language other than the native one , i think it's great to be understandable , this is the idea of the second language ( first langauge is to talk nicly and being " complex " , other languages are to communicate ) and tha's is wonderful
