LinuxQuestions.org - Dual-boot WinXP / Suse 9, keeps crashing after installing Suse

I am having trouble getting SUSE linux 9 to work on my computer. I am trying to dual-boot WinXP/SUSE9 using grub as my boot-loader. I installed windows xp first and it seems to be working fine, but when I installed suse9, both OS's became inoperable. After installing suse9, it takes 4minutes to boot up and when it does, the video doesn't work properly. Xwin won't load correctly, all I get is a messed up bitmap on the screen. I can load into a linux command promp (run-level 3), but there is not much I can do for the video from there. When I load the SaXT program from command prompt, it allows me to change the settings and video properties as well as drivers, but has no effect when I reload Xwindows. As far as loading WinXP after all of this, everytime it gets to the starting windows screen, the computer halts and then reboots. I have tried the installation of winXP and suse9 twice, just to make sure it wasn't something that I did. I was previously dual-booting winxp/suse9 on my old computer.

I have just upgraded my computer with the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard which is using the nForce chipset and Athlon XP2700+ processor. I have 512mb of PC3200 with 200mhz dual channel front side bus. I also have the nVidia GeForce4 MX440 64mb video adapter installed, which was taken from the old computer where it was working fine under suse9.

I am using a 40gb hard drive partitioned with a 20gb NTFS for winxp and 20gb reiserFS for suse9.

I have only winxp installed now and it is driving me nuts as I am a big fan of linux. Please write if you have any advice at all. Thank you all,
