dual boot windows and linux - upgrade XP to windows 7
I have a dual boot system going with Windows XP and linux, with lilo as my boot manager. I'm planning on giving windows 7 a go instead of XP, overwriting the XP partition. I know this will overwrite the MBR, so is it just a simple case of using a linux rescue disk to restore lilo? Then i can select my OS just as before?

Using Lilo -- and that Grub can do more, and easier, than lilo? |
Slackware still comes with Lilo, and then you can remove it and install grub after installation. I've never felt the need to.

Upgrading from xp to Windows 7 on my dual boot Linux system
I have a similar situation as the person with Lilo but I use grub. I want to replace my XP partition with Windows 7 partition. I am worried how to do this correctly. Is there a step by step guide? I am not sure how to make a recovery disk. Thank you for the help,

Usually just a matter of booting your install disk - which distro, which version of grub ("grub-install -v") ?.

You might try reading the information at this site to install win 7 to the same partition you had xp on:
http://www.petri.co.il/creating-a-pa...stallation.htm I haven't done this myself so I don't know how it will work. windows usually sees Linux partitions as unallocated/unknown space. You will need to watch for this if you have a Linux distribution you want to keep. |
