dual boot windows and linux - upgrade XP to windows 7

I have a dual boot system going with Windows XP and linux, with lilo as my boot manager. I'm planning on giving windows 7 a go instead of XP, overwriting the XP partition. I know this will overwrite the MBR, so is it just a simple case of using a linux rescue disk to restore lilo? Then i can select my OS just as before?

Yes, that's the basic idea, but why are you using lilo? You do realize, don't you, that lilo is obsolete and will eventually be discontinued --

Using Lilo

Slackware still comes with Lilo, and then you can remove it and install grub after installation. I've never felt the need to.

Upgrading from xp to Windows 7 on my dual boot Linux system

I have a similar situation as the person with Lilo but I use grub. I want to replace my XP partition with Windows 7 partition. I am worried how to do this correctly. Is there a step by step guide? I am not sure how to make a recovery disk. Thank you for the help,
Randy

Usually just a matter of booting your install disk - which distro, which version of grub ("grub-install -v") ?.

You might try reading the information at this site to install win 7 to the same partition you had xp on:

http://www.petri.co.il/creating-a-pa...stallation.htm

I haven't done this myself so I don't know how it will work. windows usually sees Linux partitions as unallocated/unknown space. You will need to watch for this if you have a Linux distribution you want to keep.
